Locomotive Engineer

Overview

Location: Mason, MI 48854
Pay: $28.00 – $31.00/hour
Schedule: Full-time, day and night shifts available

Operate trains and move rail cars safely and efficiently to meet customer needs. Perform switching, loading/unloading support, and train makeup/breakdown at yards and industrial sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate locomotives per FRA rules, train orders, and signals
  • Inspect equipment and track conditions
  • Communicate with dispatch and crew via radio
  • Switch, couple/uncouple cars, and operate related equipment
  • Ensure accurate car placement and movement
  • Maintain situational awareness and rail safety
  • Follow all company and safety policies

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2+ years’ conductor/engineer experience preferred
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • 49 CFR Part 240/242 Certification (required)
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Commitment to safety and compliance

Physical Requirements

  • Lift/move up to 50 lbs.
  • Climb, crawl, kneel, and work in tight/confined spaces
  • Ride outside rail equipment; walk long distances on uneven terrain
  • Work in all weather conditions, around moving trains/equipment, high voltage, and loud noise
